Arranging a Direct Cremation
with Brighton Direct Cremation

Welcome to Brighton Direct Cremation. We understand this is a challenging time, and we are here to provide a simple, no-fuss direct cremation service to care for your loved one. We choose to use Woodvale Crematorium, for all our direct cremations, so you can be assured that your loved one remains here in Brighton, unlike some other direct cremation funeral providers.   You can also be reassured that we will ensure a respectful and professional handling throughout the process. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to arrange a direct cremation with us:

 

Step 1: Contact Brighton Direct Cremation

Initial Contact:  Call us or visit our office to discuss your direct cremation needs. We are ready to guide you through every step and answer any questions you may have.

 

Office or Online Arrangements: You can arrange everything either in our office or online, whichever is more convenient for you.  

Payment:  We usually ask for full payment at the time of completing arrangements, which can be made using a debit or credit card or payment via bacs. 

 

Step 2: Legal Process

Cremation Authorisation: You’ll need to sign a cremation authorization form. We will guide you through this process to ensure all legal requirements are met efficiently - this done during the arrangement meeting, as mentioned above.

Medical Certificate of Confirmation of Death: Is issued by the Doctor who last saw your loved one, which is then usually emailed direct to the registry office in Brighton.

Registration of Death: You will need to make an appointment with the registry office to register the death. During that estimated 30 minutes meeting, you will have an opportunity to purchase any death certificates. The Registrar will email the 'green form' direct to the us.

The above relates to a straightforward case where coroners are not involved.  The process may be different in coroner's related cases.  We will guide and advise you in such circumstances.

Step 3: Arrange for Transportation

 

Collection: We coordinate the transportation of your loved one from the place of death, to our premises.   And then on the day of the booked cremation we then convey your loved one to Woodvale Crematorium. This is all carried out as promptly as possible to ensure respectful and dignified handling, without unnecessary delays.

Step 4: Cremation Process 

 

Cremation at Woodvale: The cremation will take place at Woodvale Crematorium. We will inform you in advance of when this is booked for and we will also let you know once things have gone as planned.  The ashes are usually ready for collection the next day.  It may be possible with advanced warning to have them ready same day but this is never guaranteed.

 

Step 5: Cremation Container 

Simple Container: Following the cremation at Woodvale, the ashes will be placed into a suitable container, namely in a waterproof bag and in a secure cardboard box, with a certificate of cremation contained therein.  You may request the ashes to be split into multiple containers for an extra fee.

 

Optional Urn: If you prefer, you can purchase an urn for the ashes from us or from another supplier and ask us to decant the ashes but this will be an extra cost of us to manage this process.

Step 6: Return of Ashes

 

Collection: We usually ask that you collect the ashes from Woodvale Crematorium  by appointment.
